If you arrive fairly early to Seabar, you are able to find a spot at the coveted sushi bar or table in the dining space. It’s best to call ahead (maybe on your lunch break, perhaps?) and make a dinner reservation since it fills up quite quickly with young professionals, businessmen, and social gatherings. The beauty of Seabar is its minimalist style with ever-changing lighting and warehouse-like feel. The contemporary take on sushi and sashimi will leave you with cravings at any given moment through out the days following. Given that Seabar is a Mike Andrzejewski creation, there is no hesitation to dig in.
The Chef’s Special (sashimi)
Beef on Weck Roll (an amazing Buffalo take on sushi)
Pork & Shrimp Shu Mai
a bottle of Nigori to share (unfiltered sake)
You can also call and order for takeout which makes this an ideal spot for lunch if you work downtown, are in a rush, or if you wish to stay in at home. If you are making an evening of it, keep the car parked and walked across the street to Market Arcade on Washington Street (entrance on Main St. as well). Run by Dipson Theaters, this small 6 screen theater is quaint and quiet, albeit lack of the modern-day stadium seating we are all accustomed to. We find it to be very low key on Tuesdays so if you prefer a smaller movie crowd, it is the best night to go. Also, Tuesday is their ‘Ultimate Bargain Day’ which means half price popcorn and pop and sometimes a lower movie ticket price.
MARKET ARCADE THEATER physical address: 639 Main St. Buffalo 14203 (Washington St. entrance clearly visible)
*we suggest using the ‘Poynt’ free app to find movie times
Another easy yet wonderful downtown date night! Sushi & a movie! Who said there’s nothing to do downtown?
